New Renaissance Academy recognizes the importance of attention to the academic, social and emotional needs of our students regardless of faith, cultural, racial or ethnic background by ensuring all of our students are recognized and respected for who they are. Students at New Renaissance Academy come from local and international communities. Our counsellors prepare our students for entrance into universities.
Counselling – General
Our student counselling services consist of three areas. Our counsellors assist students with the proper selection of courses that will lead to their preferred pathway to university. They also assist students with their university application during their senior year in grade twelve. There are also times in a student’s life at school where they need someone to talk to. Our counsellors are trained to help students with emotional or social support when required.
Culturally Specific Officers
Our Community Liaison (counselling) staff is chosen to represent the backgrounds of our students. We are proud that we can offer both professional and culture specific services to all of our students. We are able to offer counselling services to our students from our local community as well as culture specific by language group. We have counsellors, on staff that speak English, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) as well as other foreign languages to meet the needs of our students.
University Liaison Program
Our University Liaison Program, staffed by experienced educators with connections to Canadian universities and colleges, offers both an academic program and individual counselling program to ensure each graduating student receives the most up-to-date information to guide them in their decision making.
Meal services are provided for the students at the school. Managed and supervised by experienced professionals, the meals served are nutritious and well balanced.
New Renaissance Academy accepts both local students and those from abroad. The Canadian Government requires any student under the age of 18 to have a custodian (guardian) who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. For local students, that is usually the parent. Students arriving from abroad will need to have a guardian appointed while the student is studying in Canada. The role of the guardian is to act in place of the parent when the parent is not in Canada and therefore, unable to be available when needed. Many students have a relative or friend who acts as the student’s guardian while the student is studying at New Renaissance Academy. In place of a friend or relative, New Renaissance Academy is prepared to act as the guardian as long as the student is attending New Renaissance Academy. As part of our service, New Renaissance Academy staff will keep you informed and seek your advice concerning decisions that need to be made while your son/daughter is attending our school.
